Film Industry; Duygu Anur
In the film industry are many aspects of making and
producing a successful film. I will be discussing about Production,
Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition in the film industry.
Production
Production in the film industry is broken up into three
major categories:
- Pre-production
- Production
- Post production
Pre-production
Pre-production is an important stage of the industry. At the
pre-production period all the planning of the film is made of. The film at this
stage is separated into specific scenes; location, costumes, props, special effects
and the cast are decided.
Production
This stage is where all the planning of the film in
pre-production comes to life. The characters have prepared and learned there
scripts and filming have been carried at the locations requested. The director
is able to film each scene as many times he/she requires. This gives the
director more options to choose the best take of each scene as later in
post-production stage it will be harder to edit the shots together.
Post-production
Post-production is the final stage which is where all the
editing, special effects and sound are added. Firstly, the editor decides which
the best shots of each scene were. After picking the best shots they are then
placed into fine cut pro in scene order so it’s easier to identify what scene
is next. Also any music, effects and graphics are added at this stage checked
and locked so no further changes can be made.
Distribution
This is the stage where the film is released to the audience
to see. There are four ways a film can be released:
Internet Release
Internet release is when the film is released on the
internet before screening in theaters. The use of social network sites such as
IMDB, Twitter, and YouTube allows people to watch trailers of the films.
Simultaneous Release
This is where the film is released in different sites at the
same time.
Standard Release
The standard release is when the film is first screen in
theaters, after period of time released onto DVD’s and Blu-ray’s after a couple
years released on television.
Straight to Video Release
This procedure is when the film is released straight onto
DVD or Blu-ray without being release in theaters.
Marketing
Marketing is how a film is advertised to its target
audience. Depending on the target audience the film is promoted different a
film with a target audience of children would be marketed with a toy whereas
teenagers would be on social networks. The different types of marketing are the
following:
- Trailers
- TV Adverts
- DVDs
- YouTube Adverts
- Happy Meals
- Posters
- Social Networks; Twitter, Facebook etc
- Billboards
Exhibition
There are several ways a film can be screened:
- DVDs
- Websites
- Cinemas
- Aeroplanes
- Coaches
- Hospital
